North Cheshire Bowmen (and its affiliated Junior and Disabled sections) is a club of some 80-100 archers based just to the south of Manchester,
England. It is affiliated to the Cheshire Archery Association, and in turns the English Northern Counties Archery Society and Archery UK (also known as the Grand national Archery Society). It is proud to be actively participating in Archery UK's new On Target scheme for club development.
The club was founded in 1950, and aims to promote the practice and history of archery. Its current members' principal interest is in target archery, but it does also include those who shoot in the field, clout and flight disciplines. Most styles of equipment are catered for, particularly the Recurve bow, Compound bow and the traditional English Longbow. There are however no facilities for crossbow shooting.
Club activities include introductory training courses run several times a year. The club also runs a range of competitions for all levels of ability; friendly matches with other clubs in the locality, and participation in postal and internet based league matches against other clubs. A general guide to archery may be downloaded by clicking here (995kb in pdf format).
Formal practice sessions are usually held at Clay Lane Sports Club (also home of Bowdon Rugby Club) from 7pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and during the daytime on Sundays. Informal practice may take place outdoors throughout the week provided at least 2 senior archers are present; and indoors subject to our Indoor Range not being booked for a function/event.
