North Cheshire Bowmen (and its affiliated Junior and Disabled sections) is a club of some sixty to eighty archers based just to the south of Manchester, England. It is affiliated to the Cheshire Archery Association, and in turns the English Northern Counties Archery Society and the Grand National Archery Society.
It was founded in 1950, and aims to promote the practice and history of archery. Its current members' principal interest is in target archery, but it does also include those who shoot in the field, clout and flight disciplines. Most styles of equipment are catered for, particularly the Recurve bow, Compound bow and the traditional English (and Welsh) Longbow. There are however no facilities for crossbow shooting.
Club activities include introductory training courses run several times a year. The club also runs a range of competitions for all levels of ability; friendly matches with other clubs in the locality, and participation in postal and internet based league matches against other clubs. A general guide to archery may be downloaded by clicking here (995kb in pdf format).
Formal practice sessions are usually held at Clay Lane Sports Club (also home of Bowdon Rugby Club) from 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and during the daytime on Sundays. Informal practice may take place outdoors throughout the week provided at least 2 senior archers are present, and indoors subject to our Indoor Range not being booked for a function/event.

North Cheshire Bowmen run a series of six-week beginners courses throughout the year, with all equipment and tuition provided. The cost of the course is about £60, and it is usually held from 7-8:30pm on a Tuesday evening at Clay Lane Sports Club on Clay Lane in Timperley. Once someone has completed the beginners course they can decide whether or not to join the club and, if required, can also be given help and advice on what equipment to buy (or hire) at that time.
Anyone interested in joining North Cheshire Bowmen or attending one of our beginners courses may contact the club Secretary at the address below (please remember to include a contact phone number):
